Privacy Policy
Effective Date: August 24, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how CLIAnywhere — including our mobile applications, web application, and browser extension (collectively, the "Services") — collects, uses, and protects your information. By using the Services, you agree to the practices outlined below.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide the Services:
- Account information — When you register, we collect the username and email address you provide. If you sign in with a third-party provider (Google, Apple, or GitHub), we receive your provider account identifier, username, and email address.
- Device identifiers — The names and access keys of the machines you connect to, used to associate your account with your own devices after you scan a QR code or enter an access key.
- Diagnostic and usage data — Basic technical data such as log information and crash reports used to maintain and improve the Services.
We do not collect your browsing history or the contents of your terminal sessions beyond what is described in Section 3.
2. Camera Permission
The mobile app and browser extension may request access to your device's camera for the following purpose:
- QR Code Scanning — The camera is used exclusively to scan QR codes displayed by our companion application. This allows you to bind and link your own personal device. The camera feed is processed locally in real time; no video or image data is recorded, stored, or transmitted to any server.
The camera is activated only when you explicitly initiate a QR code scan. It is not accessed at any other time.
3. Terminal Session Data
CLIAnywhere lets you access a terminal running on your own machine (via our companion daemon program). Terminal input and output travel between your device and your machine in one of two ways:
- Peer-to-peer connection (WebRTC) — Data flows directly between your device and your machine, encrypted in transit and never routed through our servers.
- Relay fallback — When a direct peer-to-peer connection cannot be established (e.g., due to network restrictions), data is relayed through our relay servers in real time. Relayed data is transmitted in transit only; it is not stored, logged, or read by us.
Terminal history (scrollback) is kept only on your own machine and in your local app session, never on our servers.
4. How We Use Your Information
The information we collect is used to:
- Create and manage your account.
- Facilitate device binding via QR code scanning or access keys.
- Maintain the connection between your device and your linked machines.
- Verify your subscription entitlements and enforce plan limits.
- Provide customer support and respond to your inquiries.
5. Third-Party Services & Advertising
- Google AdMob — The free tier of our mobile app displays advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob and its partners may collect the advertising identifier and diagnostic data (e.g., device and app interaction data) to serve and measure ads. Where required, we ask for your consent via Google's User Messaging Platform before showing personalized ads, and you can manage or withdraw your advertising preferences at any time in the app's Settings. Paid subscribers see no ads. For more details, see Google's Privacy Policy.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — Subscriptions and payments are processed by Apple and Google (see Section 6).
- Sign-in providers (Google, Apple, GitHub) — If you use third-party sign-in, the provider handles the authentication and shares only your account identifier, username, and email address with us. Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy (Google, Apple, GitHub).
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with any other third parties except as described in this Policy or as required by law.
6. Subscriptions & Payments
We offer auto-renewable subscriptions. All purchases and payments are processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We never receive or store your credit card or payment details. We receive only your subscription status (e.g., plan tier and expiration) from the store to unlock the features you are entitled to. Subscriptions can be managed or cancelled at any time in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
7. Data Storage & Security
User-submitted information is stored securely on our servers. Device binding data is additionally cached locally on your device or browser using standard storage APIs. Account credentials are protected with hashed passwords and token-based authentication. We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.
8. Data Retention & Deletion
We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide the Services.
- In-app deletion — You can delete your account and associated data at any time from the app's Settings page ("Delete Account").
- Contact us — You may also request deletion by emailing us. Upon such request, we will remove your information from our servers within a reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required by law.
9. Children's Privacy
The Services are not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Services after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
